Gordon’s oldest Grandchild became engaged October 1st, 2011

Daniel Tower Wilmot, in his last year at Texas A&M, became engaged to Suzanne Emmert from Topeka Kansas.  They’ve planned their wedding for this coming June 16th, in Topeka.  Her engagement ring was passed down from Danny’s great grandmother, Sarah Tower Wilmot, to his paternal Grandmother, Elizabeth Wilmot, and then on to Suzanne.  The wedding ring portion shown below is one Danny and Suzanne picked out.  Of course, she cannot have it until June.  Nice combination, huh?

A Surprise Birthday for Lucile Foster, Marilyn’s Mom, August 2004

In August 2004, Marilyn (and to some small degree, Gordon along with Marilyn’s sister in law, Chris Foster), prepared a surprise 80th birthday party for Marilyn’s Mom, Lucile Foster.  It was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, and was attended by about 70 of Lucile’s friends, some of whom she had not seen in nearly 60 years.

Oregon and Seattle Washington, June 2004

In June 2004 we went West for the wedding of Gordon’s nephew Jeff in Oregon.  From there we rented a car and drove to Seattle Washington for a few days, seeing such sites as the famous “Needle” and a wonderful glass museum in Tacoma.

Europe, August 2003

In August 2003, we flew from Philadelphia to Amsterdam and stayed 2 nights in what turned out to be our favorite city ever. From there we boarded the “River Princess” for a 7 night cruise up the Rhine River to Basel Switzerland, stopping in several French and German cities en route. The ancient castles were unbelievable!  From Basel we flew to London where we met up with Gordon’s brother John and his wife Carol. After a couple of nights in London, we boarded the “Royal Princess” in Southampton for a 12 day cruise which included stops in Falmouth England, Dublin Ireland, Edinburgh Scotland, Hamburg Germany, Amsterdam Netherlands, Brugge Belgium, Le Havre France, and back to Southampton, then home.

A Visit with Tad in Mexico, April 2003

In April 2003, Gordon, Marilyn and Sarah flew to Mexico to visit Tad (Gordon Jr.) and his family. After four days in Tad’s hometown of Aguascalientes, all eight of them rented a BIG van, and drove westward, through the city of Guadalajara, and on to the Pacific coast. In Puerto Vallarta, they rented a four bedroom Condo (found on the internet), and spent a great week together there.

Fun time in Key West, April 2002

This was a fun “long weekend”. With our neighbors, Bob & Tish Whitesell, we all drove down to Ft. Myers and stayed in a motel. A dinner-mystery train was the entertainment that night, and early the next morning we drove to the pier in Ft. Myers and jumped on a high speed ferry to Key West. It was about a four hour ride on a beautiful day, with good company. Two nights were spent in a lovely bed and breakfast, and we spent two days walking just about the whole island. Do this trip if you ever get a chance.

Crazy Trip to Mardi Gras, February 2001

What a crazy town. We drove from Bradenton to New Orleans, spending one night going and another night returning on the road. Checked in to the Hampton Inn in the French Quarter, then learned what the word “Party” really means! Mardi Gras in the “Big Easy” is a really wild and wonderful time. If you ever get a chance to go, don’t miss it. We’ll certainly be going to another one some day.

From Acapulco to San Juan, October 1999

The canal changes hands 12/31/99, so we went to visit it via Princess Cruise Lines’ “Sun Princess” with Gordon’s brother John and his wife Carol.  Adjoining rooms with a common balcony overlooking the sea could not be matched!  We flew to Acapulco, cruised to Puntarenas Costa Rica, Cartegena Columbia, Aruba, St Thomas, and San Juan.  Everyone has to go on a cruise some day.  Unbelievable food, entertainment and activities.

The First Annual Stevens Reunion, August 1999

We hosted the first annual “Stevens” reunion here in Warwick on August 14th-15th. Invited were all relatives of Gordon’s maternal grandmother. Twenty four “cousins” showed up, a third of them from Connecticut. We had a clambake (with lobsters) on Saturday afternoon, pizza on Saturday night, and Marilyn’s own “Apple Breakfast Lasagne” for Sunday brunch. One of our cousins showed up who we hadn’t seen in some forty years! A great time!

Mississippi River by Steamboat, November 1998

A really great trip. We flew to New Orleans, and spent 7 nights on the Paddlewheel Steamboat “Mississippi Queen”, visiting St Francisville, Natchez, Vicksburg and Baton Rouge. Then spent 2 nights at the Monteleon Hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Walked Bourbon Street a lot and ate lots of Cajun cuisine.

Danny Marries, June ’12

Danny, (Gordon’s oldest grandson) and Suzanne Emmert were married in Topeka Kansas in June, 2012. It was a wonderful few days, and the whole family flew out there to witness the event. After a honeymoon in Colorado, the new Wilmots settled into his job in Manhattan, NY

Bahamas, ’12

We spent a week in Freeport, Bahamas in March 2012, to celebrate our birthdays (G’s on the 21st, M’s on the 27th). The Grand Lucayan Hotel was chosen from the Internet, and it was really a great choice to spend the week. We chose a room with the ocean view, which was well worth the difference. Lots to do in both the Hotel and surrounding shop bazaars. We rented a car and drove from one end of the Island to the other. Choose this hotel if you’re ever going to the Bahamian Island of Freeport.

Marilyn’s Surprise 60th Feb ’12

A really big surprise birthday party for Marilyn’s 60th was planned quite surrepticiously by Gordon, and held on February 19, 2012 at the Riverhouse in Palmetto FL. About 40 people showed up and her surprise can be seen in thiis first photo. Cousins she had not seen in years came, along with lots of friends and other relatives. Gordon’s daughters and all their kids came down and stayed in a house on the beach on Anna Maria Island the week after.

First Grandkids Sleepover, 2010

June 28, 2010

At “Gammy’s Reunion” party on June 19th (hosted by Sarah and Bob), Amy suggested that all of Gordon’s Grandkids should have a sleep-over at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. So, without further ado, because Danny was in town, all NINE of the cousins gathered for a unique get-to-gether at Anglesea. Positioned in beds and sofas and floor-mattresses, all nine of them, plus Suzanne (Dannys’soul mate) stayed up late playing UNO, slept wherever they could, and thoroughly enjoyed each other. This event will most likely never happen again, but none of them will ever forget it. (neither will the clean-up crew).

Texas Visits, 2010

April 12 to April 21, 2010

Tampa to Houston, then drove to San Antonio for a few days. Back to Caty TX, visiting Carroll & Lori Cockrum (friends from Vizcaya) for a few more. Spent a night in a cheap 70’s hotel in Galveston with a great view, then drove north to College Station to spend a couple of days with Grandson Danny Wilmot who is attending Texas A&M. Drove back to Houston and flew to New Orleans for three nights, then back to Tampa.

China and Thailand, 2008

April 14th ’til May 9, 2008

Beijing to Shanghai, then to Suzhou and Wuhan where we boarded a River Boat for a four day Cruise on the Yangtzee River, including the Three Gorges Dam, Wanxian City, and Chongquing with its impressive Pandas.
The City of Xian with its Terra Cotta Warriors, Guilin and the Li River. Then on to Hong Kong, Macao (for some gambling), then to Bangkok Thailand for three days, and eventually back to Tampa.

Catie’s Born, January 2008

Catherine Ann Perrone arrived January 17th, (same as her maternal grandmother) 2008 at 8:44am in South County Hospital, Wakeield RI (she wanted to be near her mother). She weighed in at 8 lbs 13 oz (WOW!), 21 1/2″ long, had black hair, manicured nails and was beautiful. This is Sarah and Bob’s second child, after Lauren’s birth a couple of years before.

Myrtle Beach with Siblings, Sept ’07

In September of 2007, Gordon and Marilyn, along with his brother John and wife Carol, and his sister Cyndie rented a condo right on the beach in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  They couldn’t remember ever having done this in their adult lives, and decided it was time to spend some quality time together.  They flew to Myrtle Beach where Gordon had found a three-bedroom condo on the internet, and it was perfect for what they needed.  A full size car rental was required and worked out well.  They ate “in” and “out”, did some shopping, and made a day-trip to Charlotte.  All agreed it was an enjoyable trip.

The Whole Family to Bermuda, ’06

In the early spring of ’06, Gordon and Marilyn decided it would be a great experience to take all their kids and grandkids on a vacation to Bermuda. It’s difficult to get this whole family together because Gordon’s son, “Gordon” and his family (wife and 3 kids) live in Aguascalientes, Mexico. A cruise was found and everybody was contacted, including Marilyn’s mother, Lucile. Sarah and Bob had just delivered their first child, Lauren, the previous November, and thought the baby would not be a good candidate for cruising. We decided to fly Bob/Sarah/Lauren and Lucile to Bermuda where we would meet up with them when the ship docked in St. Georges. It all worked out better than anyone expected, and all the siblings and cousins had plenty of time to get reacquainted.

Spain, Portugal, Greece etc. May ’06

In May 2006, Gordon & Marilyn embarked on an adventure taking them to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Turkey. They flew to Madrid Spain and explored the region for four days. Gordon had lived with a Spanish family in Madrid in 1956 and wanted to revisit. They toured the city, and took day trips to Toledo, Avila, and Segovia. They then took a seven hour bus ride from Madrid to Lisbon Portugal, where they spent one night before leaving on a cruise to Gibraltar, Alicante Spain, Messina Sicily and Venice. Then on to Athens Greece, Ephesus Turkey, Iraklion Crete, Corfu Greece, and back to end the trip overnight in Venice.

Lauren is Born to Sarah & Bob, 2005

Lauren Elizabeth Perrone arrived November 21, 2005 about 3:30am weighing in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces. She was born at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI. Both her Mom Sarah, and Dad Bob, were present during the delivery, and Bob stayed in the room with new Mom for her entire 3 night stay. Lauren is their first child, although they are also parents to three felines. They all live on Tri-Pond Court in South Kingstown, RI.

Gordon’s Surprise 70th, March 2005

After six months of surreptitions planing, Marilyn pulled off the impossible. She gathered over 50 of Gordon’s family and closest friends, from far and near, for a complete surprise 70th birthday party for him. The out of town invitees had to stay in local hotels and keep out of site for as much as two days before the blast, which was held in a tent on the beaches of Anna Maria Island, about 5 miles from where Gordon & Marilyn spend the winter.

Antarctica, ’05

On January 15, 2005 Gordon & Marilyn flew to Argentina from Tampa, via Miami. Two nights in Buenos Aires, then on to Ushuaia, Argentina where we boarded the ship M/V Discovery for a two week cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula. Then northwest through the Chilean Fjords to Valparaiso, and on to Santiago Chile. A couple of night in Santiago and we returned home to Bradenton, Florida our winter refuge.

Sarah weds Bob, Sept 2004

On September 25th, 2004, Gordon’s youngest daughter Sarah, married Bob Perrone. Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Bay Voyage Inn on the island of Jamestown, in Narragansett Bay. This wonderful old Inn was a perfect setting for a perect wedding on a perfect day. Bob is originally from Westerly, where his folks Joe & Rose live, and he has a home in South Kingstown. The happy couple spent ten wonderful days in Hawaii, and now share Bob’s house. Bob is in the home mortgage business, and Sarah works (back then) for Citizens Bank.

Galapagos/Machu Pichu/Amazon ’02

In December 2001, our beloved 21 year old kitten “Nate” went to kitty heaven. We kind of inherited her when Gordon’s Mom passed away in 1997. We miss her sorely, but now, not having to concern ourselves with keeping her company (Marilyn would never leave her with anyone else), we are free to travel more. In October, 2002, Gordon & Marilyn got back into the swing of travel. They visited Ecuador, cruised the Galapagos Islands, visited Lima and Cuzco Peru, and then traveled by train to Machu Picchu, the beautiful and ancient Incan ruins in the Andes Mountains. Once you’re there, you might as well see it all, so they then cruised the Amazon River for a week before returning to Florida.
